The brief for this home was a contemporary, modern holiday home which meant it needed to be hard-wearing, easily cleaned, and stress-free around young children.

David Burdett Architects were given this brief and came through with an amazing interpretation of a “contemporary modern home”.

When you first see the home from the street it is very understated. It looks like a very nice home but it isn’t loud & pretentious.

You know somethings going on with the hand formed rock spine that greets you at the huge front door, but its not until you open the door that you’re greeted by a four metre timber ceiling and amazing Mornington peninsula hand laid granite wall. Once you step up into the main living area, you walk into a huge kitchen, entertaining space with raked ceilings and glass covering the northern aspect of the house.

The rear of the house comprises of the bedrooms and second rumpus room, thus creating a separate area for the kids to entertain themselves.

The use of polished concrete floors was ideal for this home. Its extremely hard-wearing and easily cleaned with the added benefit of looking amazing which really suits this home.

The use of concrete was extended to the kitchen with concrete benchtops used throughout the kitchen that were formed onsite by us.

The exterior is based around this kitchen entertainment area which leads outside via enormous sliding doors which open up the house to the pool and decking area, exploiting the inside/outside feeling, a sense of being together regardless of being in the kitchen or the pool.

The exterior cladding is Ironbark Shiplap, which suits the materials used inside, giving it that overall connection.
